REVELSTOKE - If you are trying to skip town today, watch for delays on Highway 1 due to avalanche control.

The Trans-Canada will be closed in both directions for up to two hours at a time through part of Glacier National Park from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. today, April 1. The highway will also be closed from Field to the Alberta border for avalanche control from 1:30 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. today.

Avalanche control will also be taking place on Highway 93 from Marble Canyon to the Alberta border from 3:30 p.m. to 4:10 p.m. and from Vermillion Crossing to the Alberta border from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. today.

Closer to home, watch for spring cleaning and maintenance on several highways, including Highway 97, Highway 33, Highway 1 through the Fraser Valley and Highway 97B.

Earlier this week Avalanche Canada issued a special avalanche warning for much of Western Canada as warmer temperatures and sunny skies elevate the risk in many backcountry areas.
