A BC nurse who stole narcotics from work to use while on duty has been placed on conditions.

According to a May 19 BC College of Nurses and Midwives decision, the unnamed registered nurse agreed to undergo treatment after being diagnosed with a disability with a "causal relationship" with narcotics.

The nurse is the ninth so far this year to have been caught pilfering narcotics from work. Penalties have ranged from having conditions placed on their practice to being suspended for three months.

The decision says the registered nurse stole the drugs for a period of 18 months between January 2021 and June 2022 and used them while on duty.

While nurse doesn't face a suspension they will be monitored at work for a minimum of three years. There is also a two-year restriction on accessing and handling narcotics and they must tell their employer about their treatment.

The nurse has also been barred from working overtime for six months.

The nursing regulator says it is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
