A man accused of a 2021 murder in Scotch Creek was released on bail today.

Paul Vincent Binder appeared in B.C. Supreme Court in Kamloops today, March 15. He had been in custody since his arrest in December.

Binder, 52, is accused of shooting and killing John Vance in June 2021.

His lawyer Jay Michi said he was released on "strict" conditions after he was scheduled to appear in front of Supreme Justice Joel Groves.

He was released on surety bail with a $10,000 deposit, according to B.C. Prosecution Service spokesperson Dan McLaughlin.

Binder's hearing is currently under a publication ban restricting the use of any evidence that arose during bail proceedings.

Chase RCMP responded to a report of a shooting on the 4100 block of Squilax-Anglemont Road in Scotch Creek on June 25, 2021. Vance was alive when officers responded around 5:45 a.m., but he later died of his injuries.

The B.C. RCMP Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, later resulting in a second-degree murder charge for Binder on Dec. 5, 2022.

Binder is expected back in court on March 20 for an arraignment hearing.
