A 52-year-old man is in custody for a murder in the Shuswap area last year.
Paul Vincent Binder was charged for the murder of John Vance, 32, on Monday, Dec. 5, according to an RCMP news release issued today, Dec. 9.
Neither court records nor the news release says whether Binder is facing a first or second degree murder charge.
"I’m appreciative for the assistance from our partners and the ongoing efforts by the investigative team in bringing this matter to its current state," Insp. Brent Novakoski of the B.C. RCMP major crime unit said in the release.
Chase RCMP responded to a report of a shooting in the 4100 block of Squilax-Anglemont Road in Scotch Creek on June 25, 2021. Vance was still alive when police responded around 5:45 a.m., but he later died of his injuries.
The B.C. RCMP Major Crime Unit took over the investigation.
Police publicly identified Vance a week after he was killed.
Binder is expected to appear in a Kamloops courtroom on Dec. 15 for his bail hearing.
