A Cache Creek man charged with second-degree murder has been granted bail for the third time this year.

Corey Richard Harkness, 31, was arrested by police after a deadly shooting earlier this year at a Cache Creek residence in the 1000-block of Collins Road. On Jan. 14, police responded to a 911 call at a Cache Creek home around 7 p.m. where an "interaction" took place between two people who knew each other. When officers arrived, they found a deceased man and arrested Harkness in connection to the man's death.

Details of the offence cannot be published due to a court-ordered publication ban.

Lawyers met in provincial and Supreme court today to deal with new charges against Harkness involving breaches stemming from his April 5 release plan, according to Crown prosecutor Neil Flanagan.

“There have been some difficulties with breach charges in connection with the conditions imposed April 5,” Flanagan said in Kamloops Supreme Court today, Dec. 5. 

Harkness was brought back into custody last Friday, Nov. 29, after being charged with breach of undertaking or recognizance and was released again today with an adjusted release plan granted by Supreme Court Judge Sheri Ann Donegan.

Donegan imposed a new recognizance for Harkness with similar conditions and added he is to not be outside Kelowna city limits while on bail.

This is Harkness's third time in front of a judge regarding bail this year.

Initially, Harkness was held in custody until Feb. 4 where he was released on a $100,000 cash bail with a $10,000 deposit. On Feb. 18, he was arrested for breaching a bail condition and brought back into custody. Defence and Crown lawyers met on April 5 in Kamloops Supreme Court to submit a joint release plan for Harkness. His bail conditions required him to live at a supportive housing facility in Kelowna aimed at aiding people involved with crime.

Harkness is scheduled to return to court on March 16, 2020 for a preliminary inquiry.
