A paranormal investigation team will be at the Historic O’Keefe Ranch in Vernon this Halloween, and they’ll be taking a few daring participants into some heritage buildings to conduct an investigation.

The event appeals to fans of the paranormal, and aims to gain awareness of heritage sites and collect funds for the upkeep of the ranch.

Peter Renn is the head of the Canadian Paranormal Foundation. He said supporting history and communities have always been key parts of the foundation.

The team is made up of seven investigators from the Okanagan and Kamloops who will be arriving with cameras, sound recording equipment and other specialized equipment.

It is not the first time the team has been on the historical site.

“We have been there before and nothing came out of it that was credible for me,” Renn said. “But when we went a couple of months ago the site manager opened an attic up and there was a big shriek from a woman saying ‘help me’. We recorded a number of other voices and on my way down the staircase I could hear someone laughing at me sarcastically.”

Prior to the investigation, the team will be giving a public presentation on the methodology of paranormal investigating, an overview of the equipment they use and photo sharing of apparitions Renn said has seen over his 30 years of investigating.

“We use audio voice recorders and cameras that have been adapted in various ways to simulate different lighting such as infrared,” Renn said. “We use thermal imaging cameras. I’m a fan of testing spirits using heat. Our team has a solid understanding of photography, things like mechanical interference and knowledge of natural reasons for phenomena.”

This event is taking place at the ranch Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is for ages sixteen and up only. All proceeds are going to the maintenance and upkeep of the ranch and its facilities and programs.

Tickets are limited so make sure you book in advance here or call 250-549-7469.

Peter Renn was born in London, England and has lived and investigated in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada. He is an ex director of a paranormal television show and a co-creator of an award-winning YouTube Show called We Want To Believe that takes an un-Hollywood approach to the pseudoscience of paranormal investigation. The father of two has co-authored two books about the paranormal.

Historic O’Keefe Ranch tells the story of early B.C. Ranching and endeavours to preserve the history and culture of the early ranching era for future generations.
