3 vehicles destroyed in downtown Vernon blaze

Vernon Fire Department

Three vehicles have been destroyed and more were damaged in a blaze that sparked in a downtown Vernon parkade yesterday afternoon.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services initially responded to the fire at roughly 3:05 p.m., Nov. 25, to the 3000-block of 31st Avenue. Smoke from the fire was visible in the surrounding area.

Upon arrival, firefighters found a vehicle was fully involved with fire on the third floor of the parkade, according to the fire department in a press release. Firefighters worked quickly to knock the fire down and extinguish it.

All offices within the building were evacuated and no injuries have been reported, according to the fire department.

Following an initial investigation, fire crews determined three vehicles have been lost to the fire and several others sustained damaged; however, the total extent of damage is unknown.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious, according to the fire department.
