2 more COVID-19 deaths brings death toll at Vernon care home to 7

Four staff members and six residents of Heritage Square in Vernon have tested positive for COVID-19.

Two more people have died as the result of the COVID-19 outbreak at the Heritage Square long-term care home in Vernon.

That brings the toll to seven people who have died as a result of that outbreak and 46 altogether in the Interior Health region.

There have now been 58 people infected with COVID-19 at Heritage Square, including 44 residents and 14 staff.

“As COVID-19 cases rise throughout the southern Interior, we must redouble our efforts to prevent ongoing spread in the community,” Susan Brown, president and CEO of Interior Health, said in a news release. “It is so important to follow the public health guidance that helps keep you and your loved ones safe from COVID-19: keep to your household bubble, stay home when you are sick, practise physical distancing, wear a mask, and wash your hands often.”

The Big White cluster has grown to 175 people.

The Nordic House long-term care home in Vernon has 40 cases, including 24 residents and 14 staff.

At the Heritage Retirement Residence in West Kelowna 46 people have been infected, including 41 residents two of which have died.

In Oliver, the outbreak at McKinney Place long-term care sits at 78 cases. That includes 55 residents and 23 staff. Seventeen people have died.

Village by the Station in Penticton has 10 cases, with half of those being residents and the other half staff. One person has died.

Mountainview Village in Kelowna has 16 cases including eight residents and eight staff. Two people have died.

Sunnybank long-term care in Oliver has 28 cases, 21 of whom are residents. One person has died.

Brocklehurst Gemstone care home in Kamloops has four cases including three residents.
