Giving Back with Every Bite: Savour the goodness of giving.

If you live in Summerland, you already know about Yaki’s Pizza & Subs and their mouthwatering menu. If you’re new to the area, or driving through, stop in at the old Bank of Montreal; a heritage building located conveniently on Main Street. There you’ll find Mike and Aura, local entrepreneurs and owners of Yaki’s Pizza & Subs. Ask them about their recent purchase and renovation of the 110-year-old Bank of Montreal, where they enjoy welcoming friends and customers in a new, larger location, and Aura can tell you about their excitement in bringing this century building back to life. It’s an interesting story.

While you’re waiting for your order, buy a cookie. They’re baked fresh daily, and every penny of your dollar goes to the Summerland Food Bank and other charities. The BC Children’s Hospital and Humane Society have also benefited from their hard work and the spirit of giving. SOWINS (South Okanagan Women in Need Society) also receive charitable funds from donations, and if you look on their website, you’ll find a schedule for the Summerland Steam Jr A Hockey Team under the section “Happening in Summerland.”

Interested in local charities? Here’s a few details.

The Summerland Food Bank: The mission of the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre extends beyond providing immediate food assistance to those in need in Summerland. Their role also encompasses serving as an information and referral hub for individuals grappling with life's challenges and seeking guidance on available social services. Additionally, their recently launched Seed to Feed Program is geared towards cultivating fresh, local, and organic produce at the Summerland Community Gardens. The harvested produce is then distributed through the Food Bank's Tuesday Sharing Stand.

South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS): Their vision is to foster an environment where everyone possesses the freedom to lead a life that is secure and healthy. Their mission revolves around aiding individuals in healing from the effects of violence and abuse, while actively advocating for the prevention of such destructive behaviours within our communities.

Indulge in the authentic pizza experience where every slice is a piece of the Summerland community.

It’s not a surprise that Yaki’s Pizza & Subs has been an area favourite for more than 30 years. Ask anyone in the community, and they’ll send you there for their subs and pizza pulled fresh from the oven. They use local produce when it’s in season, and handmake their dough, use quality meats and never make their menu food before it’s ordered. That way, you get all the healthy delicious nutrition to enjoy on your picnic, at the beach, or at home.

So, when you’re traveling through Summerland, stop in for one of their locally famous subs or fresh baked pizza. Mike and Aura show a genuine community spirit, and you’ll enjoy meeting them.

“Summerland has been a great place to live and work and we are happy and proud to be part of it.”

Embark on a culinary journey that's steeped in local love and flavours that speak to the soul.
