UPDATE: Severe thunderstorm watch ended

Another chance of thunderstorms today.

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - UPDATE: 8:49 p.m., Aug. 14

The severe thunderstorm watch for the South and North Thompson and Nicola regions has ended. Short-lived storms passed through the region late afternoon and early evening, but no major damage has been reported.

UPDATE: 6:07 p.m., Aug. 14

The severe thunderstorm warning has been downgraded back down to a watch in the South Thompson region and the watch has been removed for many other regions. Only the North and South Thompson regions, along with Nicola remain under a watch.

UPDATE: 5:48 p.m., Aug. 14

A severe thunderstorm watch has been upgraded to a warning as a system hits the South Thompson region.

Heavy rain is possible with the system. The rest of the region remains under a watch this hour.

11:21 a.m., Aug. 14

Today might actually be the day you get to satisfy your need for a good summer storm. For the third day in a row a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the region.

Environment Canada is again warning conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The system could bring large hail, heavy rain and lightning.

For the Okanagan region — including Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon — expect slightly below normal temperatures today with showers beginning near noon. Kamloops will see a high of 29 Celsius today with a 50 per cent chance of showers today.

Tomorrow will again bring a 60 per cent chance of showers throughout the region along with a risk of thunderstorms while showers and even cooler temperatures, 21-23 C, can be expected Saturday. By Sunday and Monday the sun is expected to return and temperatures should kick back up to seasonal normals.

The first watch issued Tuesday covered the Okanagan, Wednesday the second watch expanded to included much of the Southern Interior and today the watch includes a few more regions in the Southeast corner of the province as well.
