WEST KELOWNA - A woman is in hospital being treated for a single gunshot wound after she was shot in a West Kelowna neighbourhood late last night, police say.

West Kelowna RCMP were called to the 700 block of Spland Road at 11:16 p.m. yesterday for a report of a shot fired inside the home. They found the 31-year-old woman conscious but she was rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, Const. Jesse O'Donaghey says.

A 28-year-old West Kelowna man was taken into police custody and remains in custody. The scene has been secured while police wait to obtain a search warrant.

"The West Kelowna RCMP General Investigations Section has assumed control of the ongoing investigation," O'Donaghey says. "RCMP can confirm that this was an isolated incident."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cpl. Lisa Cullen of the West Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) at 250-768-2880. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
