Wildfire south of city producing smoke

Guards similar to this one are being used to help contain a fire on Long Lake Road today.

KAMLOOPS — A fire on Long Lake Road in the Knutsford area has been contained at 15.6 ha but is expected to continue producing smoke today.

B.C. Wildfire Information Officer Kayla Pepper says the fire was reported early yesterday afternoon and a sustained action crew along with two initial attack crews responded to guard and contain the fire. After containing it they remained on site until about 9 p.m. and today eight firefighters returned to complete mop-up.

A nearby water source helped crews in attacking the fire but the deciduous trees burning have resulted in a lot of smoke.

“You can expect it will produce more smoke today,” Pepper says, adding the fire is acting as expected. “As of right now the situation looks good.”

Pepper adds they do suspect the fire to be person caused and investigators are on scene today.
