West Kelowna stabbing victim dies in hospital

A 50-year-old West Kelowna man could be facing more serious charges after a 45-year-old man who was stabbed in West Kelowna, Wednesday, April 29, 2015, died in hospital.

WEST KELOWNA – The 45-year-old West Kelowna man who was stabbed in a fight last week has died in hospital.

RCMP were called about a stabbing near the intersection of Solar Road and Elliot Road in West Kelowna just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29.

Police found a a 45-year-old man suffering from a serious stab wound. He died in hospital on May 2.

There are reports the victim was stabbed in the chest. Police have said the victim and the suspect knew each other.

Jose Amestica, 50, has been charged with aggravated assault and is in custody.

“Police are currently consulting with Crown Counsel regarding appropriate charges as a result of victim passing away,” Cpl. Joe Duncan says in a media release. “Our investigation remains very active and ongoing.”

Duncan says the victim’s name is not being released at this time.
