KELOWNA – Some residents in the Central Okanagan are being warned ttheir water could make those with weakened or undeveloped immune systems sick.

The Central Okanagan Regional District has issued a Water Quality Advisory to residents served by the Falcon Ridge system in Joe Rich in Kelowna, along with the systems in Killiney Beach and Westshore Estates off Westside Road.

The advisory affects roughly 55 properties on the Falcon Ridge system, more than 280 properties in the Killiney Beach subdivision and 265 properties in the Westshore Estates subdivision, according to a media release.

The Regional District says increased turbidity in each of the three water system sources from high runoff has resulted in water quality that might impact children, the elderly or those with weakened immune systems.

Communications officer Bruce Smith says while the health risk is modest and no bacteria have been found in any of the water tested from the systems, staff recommended the advisory has a precaution.

"All water intended for drinking, washing fruit and vegetables, making beverages, ice or brushing teeth should be boiled for at least one minute or customers should use a safe alternative to water from the tap such as bottled or distilled water," Smith says in the release.

The precautionary water quality advisories will continue until further notice.
