Warmer November wasn't any drier than usual in southern Interior, but mostly free of snow

Kamloops and the Okanagan saw normal levels of precipitation in November, but most of that fell as rain this year.

If it felt like winter was missing from the month of November, at least in terms of snowfall, you’re right.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bobby Sekhon says Kamloops and the Okanagan saw “pretty close to normal” precipitation totals for the month of November, just about all of that coming in the form of rain.

“Snowfall was quite a bit less than in November 2017 when there was quite a contrast between Kamloops and Penticton. It was drier than normal last November in Kamloops, but wetter than normal in Penticton,” Sekhon says, adding more snow fell last year than this year.

“There was only 1.2 cm of snow in Penticton this November, down from 5.8 cm that fell in 2017,” he says.

Sekhon says weather conditions are changing along with the months, and it looks like December temperatures will return to normal, and perhaps below normal levels.

“We’re shifting to a cooler pattern,” he says,

He says predicting precipitation amounts are difficult to make beyond a week, but a high pressure system building over the weekend is expected to bring sunny skies and cooler temperatures early next week.
