Wanted man caught by Kamloops police after nodding off behind the wheel

Kamloops RCMP arrested a man wanted for robbery after receiving reports of an unresponsive individual in a running vehicle.

On Feb. 19, the Kamloops RCMP responded to reports of an unresponsive person in a running vehicle at the 400 block of 10 Avenue, according to an RCMP news release.

Upon their arrival, officers located a Honda Pilot where the unresponsive individual was spotted, the car was later reported as stolen.

“Officers turned off the vehicle and recognized a man inside as wanted on an arrest warrant related to a Kamloops robbery in August,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in the release.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing and was released with a court date.

Two long guns were found in the vehicle and seized.

An investigation into prohibited driving, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and breach of release order is ongoing and a separate one into the report of the theft of motor vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the individual received a 24-hour driving prohibition due to drug impairment under the Motor Vehicle Act.
