VERNON - It wasn’t your usual ice cream run.

Around 7:25 p.m. Wednesday police were alerted to a robbery at Marble Slab Creamery in the Fruit Union Plaza. The caller, an employee at the ice cream shop, said a man entered the store and asked for change for his loonie.

When the clerk popped open the till, the man pushed her arms aside and grabbed an undisclosed amount of cash.

A description of the suspect was fanned out among officers, but police were unable to find him. In the end, he came to them.

Around 2 a.m. the man turned himself in at the Vernon RCMP detachment, confessing to robbing the ice cream shop.

The 47-year-old man was held in custody and is expected to appear in court Sept. 11.
