UPDATE: McGill Road police response was for a false report of a home invasion

Police cordoned off the 200 block of McGill road on July 14 for an alleged home invasion

KAMLOOPS - There was a heavy police presence in the 200-block of McGill Road this afternoon as officers responded to a report of a home invasion around 12:30 p.m.

Const. Jason Epp, a spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP detachment, says a man called 9-1-1 and reported two people armed with guns were invading his home. Epp says the call turned out to be false.

"It was a full blown response to what was sounding very legitimate of two people entering the residence with guns," Epp says.

He adds the person who made the call was transferred to Royal Inland Hospital for a mental health assessment.

The area was blocked off east of 270 McGill Rd. and RCMP, including unmarked vehicles and plain clothes officers armed with rifles, were on scene. An unmarked cop car and an ambulance were stationed nearby at Beattie School of the Arts. An RCMP helicopter flew overhead.
