Two structure fires in Vernon on Saturday

Vernon Fire Department

Two structure fires were safely extinguished in Vernon yesterday.

Vernon Fire Rescue Services responded to two different and unrelated structure fires on Saturday, Feb. 17, according to a press release from the City of Vernon.

“In both incidents, the fire was quickly brought under control,” Deputy Chief Alan Hofsink said in the release.

Firefighters received a report of a fire in the 3300-block of 28 Avenue around 4:30 a.m.

When crews arrived on the scene they discovered an out building was completely engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire and limit the damage.

The service handed the file over to the RCMP, but did not report any injuries or whether the fire was deemed suspicious.

The second blaze in the 1400-block of 39B Avenue was reported around 1:30 p.m.

When firefighters got to the scene they found the flaming exterior of a detached garage.

Crews were able to quickly douse the fire and contain the damage to just the garage.

The cause of the second fire has not been determined but it is not suspicious.

“Today is an example of the dedicated hard work and expertise of our members,” Hofsink said.
