KELOWNA – A pair of suspects are facing charges after two armed robberies at convenience stores in Kelowna within hours of each other early this morning.

RCMP say at about 12:14 a.m., Nov. 29, two men with their faces covered walked into the Chevron gas station in the 2300 block of Gordon Drive.

The clerk saw the men appeared to be armed and locked himself inside a staff area at the gas station, according to a RCMP media release.

Video surveillance shows the men grabbing tobacco products before they took off.

About two and a half hours later, officers were called to another armed robbery, this time at the Mac’s store on KLO Road, police say. Two men robbed the clerk at knifepoint and got away with some cash and tobacco products.

RCMP members swarmed the area and one of the suspects was seen in the 3100 block of De Montreuil Court. He was arrested after a foot chase.

“A keen observation of an area resident led our officers to the location of the outstanding robbery suspect,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says. “The second suspect, found hiding from police, was safely taken into custody on the roof of a nearby carport.”

Two men, both 19-years-old, are in custody and facing robbery charges.
