KAMLOOPS — Collect your sweaters and turn down the thermostat, Turn Down the Heat Week begins Saturday.
Turn Down the Heat Week is a collaboration between business improvement areas in the province and Fortis B.C. to help educate the public about reducing energy consumption while helping those in need at the same time.
Two dozen downtown businesses are participating by collecting sweaters and other things like hats, mitts and scarves that will be given to the Emerald Shelter and Clubhouse. Some businesses are also offering special deals, including discounts and free products, for those bringing in donations.
Last year, the inaugural year for the event, 16 business improvement areas took part and more than 5,000 sweaters were collected across the province.
