Thousands of dollars worth of camping gear stolen from North Okanagan rec site

RCMP are trying to recover several thousands of dollars worth of camping and kayaking gear was stolen from a recreation site in Monashee Provincial Park in the North Okanagan earlier this month.

The theft was reported to have happened Oct. 2, around 10:30 p.m., at the Greenbush Lake Rec Site north of Lumby, according to an RCMP press release issued today, Oct. 13.

Among the items stolen were a tent, fire pit, tarps, clothing and an ocean touring kayak.

According to witnesses, a diesel truck was in the area at the time and may be associated with the theft.

It is described as a large, black truck with a rooftop tent and a light bar across the windshield.

The occupants of the truck were fishing in the area, RCMP said. They had a Chihuahua dog with them and investigators believe they’re from the Kelowna or West Kelowna area.

Anyone with information related to the vehicle or theft is asked to contact Cpl. Spencer Hornoi at the Lumby office of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-547-2151.
