SALMON ARM – A 37-year-old man is in police custody after he got in a fight with a teenager in Salmon Arm earlier this week.

Salmon Arm RCMP were called to the area of 28 Street NE and 9 Avenue NE on Aug. 7 for a report of an assault.

Staff Sgt. Scott West says a 15-year-old male allegedly elbowed a 37-year-old man in the back inside a fast food restaurant in Salmon Arm.

“After a verbal altercation the two parted ways only to have the 37-year-old male drive by the 15-year-old male on 9 Street NE a short time later where one of the youths in a group… yelled at the car the adult was in,” West says in a release. “The adult stopped and there was another verbal altercation, which escalated in to a physical altercation.”

The youth was taken to hospital with what police believe to be minor scrapes and bruises, but the conflict didn’t end there.

“Apparently, the issue may have continued on social media where threats may have been made,” West says. “The police will be looking into the comments made and will conduct an investigation to determine if charges are warranted as a result of the social media comments.”

The 37-year-old was taken into custody and released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

Identities of both people, as well as the time of day the fight happened was not included in the release.
