Hockey Canada announced today that Kamloops will play host to the 2014 cup series, which will feature Team Canada, United States, Finland and Sweden.
“An event of this magnitude will bring international attention to Kamloops yet again,” said Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar. “Our volunteers, community support and our facilities give us a competitive edge, and we prove time and time again that we are capable of hosting every type of sporting event.”
The tournament will open Nov. 4 with Finland the U.S. and then Canada and Sweden will play that evening. Medal games will be held on Nov. 8.
Jon Pankuch, chair of the host committee, is excited to see female hockey highlighted in our region, where the Kamloops Minor Hockey Association has worked hard to develop the sport.
This will be the sixth time Canada hosts the event, and the first time it will be held in B.C. Team Canada has won the cup 13 times since the tournament started in 1996, including in 2013.
