The day many retail shoppers have been waiting for is finally here – Tuesday, May 7 Target is opening 24 stores across Western Canada – including Kamloops and Vernon.
In total nine stores will open in B.C. tomorrow with another one in Prince George set to open next week. Manitoba and Alberta will also see stores open this week.
In May 2011 Vernon was officially named one of 189 Zellers locations bought by Target Canada while Kamloops was announced that September. In July 2012 both locations were announced as two of an estimated 125 future Target stores across the country, with a “spring 2013” opening date.
The Zellers stores at Kamloops Sahali Centre Mall and Vernon Village Green Mall both closed in November and the transformation to Target began almost immediately.
Target Corporation currently has 1,808 stores, 24 of those in Ontario and the rest in the United States. In total there will be 124 stores in Canada by the end of the year.
