Suspect charged in Penticton homicide

PENTICTON - Police arrested a man last week in connection with a 2017 Penticton homicide.

Sylvain Modeste Laurent Demers appeared in Penticton court for a bail hearing today, Oct. 29, charged with manslaughter in the death of Randall Toews.

Police responded to the 900 block of Creston Avenue on April 26, 2017, where they found Randall Toews deceased. 

In a press release issued by Penticton RCMP today, Oct. 29, Const. James Grandy said police arrested Demers at the scene, in addition to seizing a firearm.

Demers was released the following day.

According to police, signifcant manpower and resources have since been applied to the investigation, which included the RCMP's serious crimes unit, the general investigation section, the Targeted Enforcement Unit and the Forensic Identification Section.

On Oct. 26, the 37 year old Demers was arrested by police and charged with manslaughter.

Demers was granted bail by Judge Michelle Daneliuk. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 28.
