Store employee arrested after bogus report of armed robbery in Vernon

RCMP Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy

VERNON - A reported armed robbery in Vernon last week wasn’t quite what it seemed.

Vernon RCMP received a report of a robbery with what appeared to be a handgun at Vernon Cash Solutions Inc., on 26 Avenue around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. Upon further investigation, police now say a store employee made up the story and took the cash herself.

Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy says a 39-year-old Vernon woman was arrested and police are recommending charges of mischief and theft under $5,000.

She would not say how much money was stolen.

The woman has been released from custody on a promise to appear.

“It was a combination of old fashioned police work, talking to people and video surveillance,” Noseworthy says.
