GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - You might think it's cute to feed deer, or that you're actually helping them survive by doing so. Or maybe you inadvertently attracted deer into your yard by leaving out birdseed, unpicked fruit, or compost and don't see the harm.

Whatever the case, when deer are attracted by food into urban environments, the consequences can be ugly. We asked the B.C. Conservation Service to send us some photos of deer in urban environments around the Okanagan, and the images we received aren't what we expected.

They are graphic, and some may find them disturbing, but they show us why deer need to stay wild, and why urban environments are not a good place for them.
