VERNON - Police have charged an Armstrong man with sexual assault in a two-month-old investigation.
RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says charges have been laid against Joseph Vance Caron, 45.
“This investigation required a great deal of time to complete, and required forensic evidence to assist in the identification of their suspect,” Molendyk says.
Caron is charged with sexual assault, unlawful confinement, uttering threats, and attempting to choke his victim to commit a sexual offense. He was arrested July 22 in Armstrong.
To protect the victim’s identity, RCMP are releasing scarce details about the individual, saying only the person is an adult and there was no relationship between the two people.
“The identity of the victim is paramount (as is) the integrity of the case,” Molendyk says. “We try to do everything we can to get this brought before the courts... without allowing any information out that might jeopardize our investigation.”
Caron is being held in custody until his next court appearance, July 30.
