Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Kamloops

FILE PHOTO

The weather office is tracking a line of severe thunderstorms south of the Trans-Canada Highway from Copper Creek to Kamloops to Campbell Creek.

Environment Canada says the storms are capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain.

They are moving through the area over the next 30 minutes or so.

“Heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Large hail can damage property and cause injury,” the meteorologists say in the warning.

“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops.”
