KAMLOOPS - After an RCMP officer was shot in Batchelor Heights Wednesday morning, administrators at Kamloops schools are exercising safety measures while police continue searching for suspects.

"We're being extra vigilant," Assistant Superintendant John Churchley said. He added local RCMP advised there is no threat to student safety, but that administrators felt it would be appropriate to take precautions regardless. Students are being kept indoors over recess and lunch while doors are locked.

"We're letting parents know that's what we've done," Churchley said.

Parents or guardians are encouraged to pick up their children after school dismissal.
