No one was injured in a fire that fully engulfed an RV on Highway 3 near Osoyoos last night, but the highway is damaged.

Firefighters were called to the RV fire on Highway 3 in the uphill eastbound lane just below Chapman Road at around 9:15 p.m. yesterday, July 17, according to a release from the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department.

The driver was the sole occupant and escaped without injuries. It took about five hours for the department to put out the blaze.

“We are most fortunate that the vegetation was not as dry as last year,” fire chief Urs Grob said in the release. “Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading with a quick attack.”

The highway was closed in both directions for almost two hours and reopened to single lane, alternating traffic early this morning. Drivers are asked to obey all road and speed signage in this area until the eastbound lane is repaired.

Drive B.C. is warning of delays due to congestion at the accident site as a speed reduction of 50 km/h remains in place.
