The Kelowna Rockets fell 5-4 to the Vancouver Giants in the Langley Events Centre on Friday night.

The first period showed a slow start for Kelowna. The Rockets found themselves down 2-0 until Calvin Thurkauf got them on the board. The score was 2-1 going into the second period.

Vancouver got a lucky one early in the middle frame as the Rockets had a missed pass back to the blue line on a delayed penalty that found a path all the way into the Kelowna net. The Giants would score another in the first half of the second period to hold a commanding 4-1 lead. Then the Rockets turned things around. Cal Foote scored a shorthanded goal to draw the Rockets back within two. Kyle Topping then tipped home Cal Foote's point shot and the Rockets were down 4-3 heading into the third.

Team Captain Rodney Southam scored on the power play on a scramble in front of the Vancouver net seven minutes into the final stanza to even things at 4-4. The score remained that way until the Giants took the lead with 3:25 remaining. The Rockets couldn't beat Ryan Kubic late and the game finished 5-4.

Brodan Salmond fell to 7-7-1-0 on the year.

Kelowna drops to 26-17-4-0 on the season.

The Rockets are right back in action on tomorrow night when they come back home to host the Portland Winterhawks at Prospera Place.
