RCMP won't say why Kelowna's top cop hasn't been at work for a week

KELOWNA - RCMP have quietly filled the postion of superintendent for Kelowna with a temporary replacement, but they're not saying why.

Supt. Nick Romanchuk took over as top cop for the city in 2013 but according to an email from RCMP spokesperson Rob Vermeulen, Romanchuk has been away from the office since Sept. 6 and will not return "for an undetermined amount of time."

No reason has been given.

Insp. Brent Mundle is the Acting Officer in Charge of the Kelowna detachment in the meantime.
