RCMP vow to keep Penticton safe during Boonstock

PENTICTON - RCMP continue to work with Boonstock organizers to ensure concertgoers and the general public will stay safe during the August long weekend.

Boonstock organizers shared an updated version of their security plan with RCMP after a new security company was hired to run the event. RCMP are not required to approve the plan, but said it’s important that all parties work together to make it a safe weekend.

“Safety is a paramount concern,” said Sgt. Rick Dellebuur.

RCMP have scheduled 40 officers to work Boonstock—this does not include the officers who will be working regular city watch.

Officers have been scheduled for 8 to 12 hour shifts, which means there won’t be 40 officers working at once, Dellebuur said. More officers will be on site during peak hours, for example there will be more officers on patrol at 10 p.m. during a night performance compared to a slower time during the day, he said.
