RCMP divers to search Okanagan Lake to find missing Kamloops man

KELOWNA - An underwater recovery team will be searching Okanagan Lake this week in hopes of locating a missing 23-year-old Kamloops man.

RCMP say at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, eight people were boating on Okanagan Lake when they stopped for a short swim between Gyro and Kinsmen Park.

After swimming, the boaters started to travel towards William R. Bennett Bridge, when they noticed the 23-year-old from Kamloops was not on the boat, according to an RCMP media release. When they couldn't find him the call police at about 6:30 p.m.

Police and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue volunteers with support from an RCMP helicopter searched Okanagan Lake in Kelowna but couldn't find the missing man.

"The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team will be attending the area in the coming days in an effort to locate the man," Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in the media release. "Police have been in contact with the man's family and are keeping them informed of the search efforts to date."
