Rails with Trails opens for National Health and Fitness Day

Celebrate the opening of Rails with Trails Phase 2 and National Health and Fitness Day with the City of Kelowna and PacificSport Okanagan at an event on Saturday, June 7.

The event will run from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. where the turf meets the trail on Parkinson Recreation Centre’s east field at the corner of Spall Road and Clement Avenue.

There will be a short ceremony at 1:15 p.m., followed by a fun walk, run or ride on the new section of Rails with Trails. Other activities include the opportunity to try out sport stations like fencing, field hockey, soccer, track and field and golf. Each station will be hosted by certified coaches with some help from a local Olympian or high-performance athlete.

Event Schedule

12:30 – 1:15 p.m.          Free yoga and tai chi classes (20 minutes each)
                                         Sport Pathway Passport Stations with local Olympians and high performance athletes 

1:15 – 1:30 p.m.           Rails with Trails Phase Two Opening with Senator Nancy Greene Raine, Minister and MLA Steve Thomson, UBCM President Rhona Martin and Kelowna

1:30 – 2:30 p.m.           Fun three kilometre walk, run and ride
                                        Sport Pathway Passport Stations with local Olympians and high performance athletes

2 – 5 p.m.                      Free swim and fitness centre drop-in at Parkinson Recreation Centre
