KAMLOOPS - Hollywood producers are making their way to Kamloops in the coming weeks to see if the city will be the best backdrop for a major action movie to be released next year.
If approved, Kamloops could be part of the Power Rangers movie set to hit theatres in 2017.
Ernie Malik, a publicist working on the production, says at this point Kamloops is a "place of interest" but could not confirm specific locations scouts would be looking at. Producers are currently in talks with the Thompson Nicola Regional District’s film commission and plan to have more information available next week.
The movie, which is currently filming in Vancouver, is a reboot of the popular 90s classic The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers TV show about a group of high school students who gain extraterrestrial powers and save the world.
Elizabeth Banks is set to star in the film as alien witch villain Rita Repulsa.
If the location is secured for filming, it would be the second Hollywood production to film in the Kamloops area this year. Producers are currently in Cache Creek to film the latest instalment of the Maze Runner series.
