Police arrest Kamloops thief after stolen cellphone revealed location

A suspect in a Kamloops robbery was arrested in Logan Lake after a stolen cellphone revealed his location to police.

Police received a report of a break and enter in a Kamloops hotel room on Oct. 26, around 6:27 a.m., according to an RCMP media release. RCMP do not identify the hotel.

The suspect allegedly stole a cellphone, the victim's vehicle keys and their vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle used their cellphone to track the suspect as they drove along Highway 5 in the Logan Lake area. A local tow company located the stolen vehicle after it was involved in a minor collision, and the suspect required a tow.

RCMP officers arrived on the scene and located the suspect, who was then arrested. The vehicle and cellphone were recovered.

Kamloops resident Mark Daniel Clute, 50, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, has been charged with break and enter, theft of a vehicle and breaching probation.

He is currently in custody and scheduled to appear in court, Nov. 9.

"The Logan Lake RCMP would like to thank the owners of the stolen vehicle for their quick thinking and the tow company who helped police in locating the vehicle," Logan Lake RCMP detachment commander Cpl. Jarett Duncan said in the release.
