PHOTOS: New Year's Day frigid plunge into Okanagan Lake

The 2015 edition of the Kelowna Polar Bear Swim saw about 100 people take the plunge into the frigid water of Okanagan Lake at City Park, Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015.

KELOWNA - About 100 brave souls walked, waded, ran and dived into the fridge waters of Okanagan Lake at Kelowna's City Park on New Year's Day.

The annual Polar Bear Swim not only tested the participants ability to survive in icy water, it was a fundraiser for the Community Recreation Initiatives Society.

The icy spash in Tug Boat Bay was followed by live, music, hot drinks and snacks.

No word yet on how much was raised to buy specially adapted equipment to help people with disabilities enjoy the outdoors.
