PENTICTON - Vehicle theft continues to be a problem in Penticton, with RCMP also reporting tire and wheel theft last week.

Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says on June 14 at around 7:15 a.m. a West Bench resident reported the theft of a Honda Civic, stolen around 4:30 a.m. according to video surveillance of the incident. Police believe they recognize the suspect.

Two days later the owner spotted his vehicle parked near a residence on the Penticton Indian Band. He immediately got in and drove the car to the RCMP detachment, who are continuing to investigate the theft, Wrigglesworth says.

A Martin Street resident reported the theft of a 1993 Mercury Villager van around 2 p.m. on June 18. The keys were accounted for and the van was locked. Ten minutes prior to police receiving the stolen van report, officers were alerted to a drunken man causing a disturbance nearby, who turned out to have property and identification belonging to the owner of the van.

Wrigglesworth says a 38-year-old man faces possible charges as police continue to investigate the incident.

On June 19 a break-in occurred at the Fountain Tire compound on Dawson Avenue, he says. The compound fence had been cut and four chrome wheels and four used tires taken.
Police continue to investigate.
