PENTICTON - One election candidate is taking the issue of voter turnout into his own hands by organizing a Rock the Vote event to spread the word about the importance of voting.
Mayoral candidate Andrew Jakubeit arranged an event for Thursday Nov. 6 at the Barking Parrot Bar and Grill that includes live music and good food. Admission is by donation and all funds raised will fund a social media campaign to “Get out and Vote.”
The goal is to promote the importance of voting in general, not for any specific candidate, Jakubeit says.
“Voter turnout traditionally has been below 30 per cent and whatever we can do to remind people to go out and vote should hopefully increase interest and turnout which is a good thing,” he says.
The event will start at 6 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. this Thursday.
