TORONTO - One of Canada's most notorious murderers is planning to marry while in prison for the rape and murder of two young girls.

QMI Agency reports this morning that the Scarborough Rapist will marry a 30-year-old, attractive, university-educated woman who wrote to him in prison. She told friends Bernardo is "innocent" and was a bystander to the rapes and torture of Kristen French, 15, and Leslie Mahaffy, 14.

"He is a kind man, a Christian, a very nice man," she told QMI Agency.

QMI opted not to identify the woman, who has "Paul's girl" tattooed on her left ankle, but says her family is devastated.

Bernardo is now 50 years old and has been serving a life sentence for the first-degree murders of the two schoolgirls. He will never be let out of prison. He was declared a dangerous offender in 1995. He pleaded guilty to another 32 sex-related crimes.
