KELOWNA – Annie, the beloved Buckerfield’s cat is back where she belongs, and staff at the farm and feed store on Springfield Road are so relieved they are holding a welcome home party Saturday in her honour.

“We just want to show a little appreciation for all the people of Kelowna that were involved in getting Annie back and we thought this was a great way to do it,” store manager Jeff Cameron says.

Annie, age unknown, was taken April 14 by a man and woman shopping in the store. The couple later admitted to taking the cat on an impulse and Annie was returned to the store the next day.

“I guess she was in here shopping for stuff for a new cat because her cat had died,” says store employee Colby Boettcher. “Apparently it looked just like Annie.”

The Welcome Back Annie event features a petting zoo, a free barbecue, country-western singers, prizes and a chance to meet the famous cat herself.

Cameron says Annie is in good health but spent her first couple days back in the store sleeping in the back room.

“When she first came back there was so much activity around her and so many people wanted to come see her and pet her that we decided to give her some space,” he says. “After a couple of days though, she was right back on the counter doing her thing. She hasn’t missed a beat.”

The celebration starts at 11:30 a.m. and runs until 3:30 p.m.
