Okanagan, Kamloops under a severe thunderstorm watch

The potential for severe weather in the form of thunderstorms is high in Kamloops and the Okanagan today.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the South Thompson, including Kamloops, the Okanagan, including Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton, and the Nicola, including Merritt.

The weather office says conditions are just right for severe thunderstorms to develop with strong wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain.

“Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles,” the watch says.

For the latest on the severe thunderstorm watch, check Environment Canada’s weather information page here.
