Off-duty officer stops Penticton tire thieves in their tracks

An off duty police officer spotted tire thieves in Canadian Tire's tire bin behind the store last week.

PENTICTON - An alert off-duty officer foiled a pair of tire thieves last week in Penticton.

Around 8:45 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 22, the off-duty officer spotted two people in the locked tire bin at Canadian Tire on Railway Avenue.

Police responded to find a man and a woman in the compound. The male attempted to climb to the roof while the female was found in the tire pile.

A search of the pair produced weapons including a baton and knives, along with break-in tools and multiple tires in the back of a vehicle nearby.

The pair were arrested and charged with break and enter.
