1969 Woodstock photographer publishes new book of photos

WOODSTOCK, N.Y. - A photographer who captured now-iconic images of the 1960s rock music scene has a new book of photos of one of the era's most influential bands.

Elliott Landy was the official photographer for the 1969 Woodstock concert in Sullivan County and took photos of some of rock's biggest names, including Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin. He also photographed members of The Band when they were living in Woodstock in Ulster County in the late 1960s.

Landy's latest book is "The Band Photographs: 1968-1969" featuring more than 200 photos, many of them never published before. Some of the photos show band members in and around their Woodstock home studio known as "Big Pink."

Landy tells the Poughkeepsie Journal (pojonews.co/1mHUEbS) that he used the crowd-funding website Kickstarter to raise $193,000 to get the gallery-quality book published.
