VERNON - Vernon Search and Rescue volunteers spent Saturday demonstrating their new capbility, the helicopter winch rescue.

The group is the first volunteer search and rescue unit in Canada certified to use the techinque. Members will be trained as part of a two year pilot project.

It could mean the difference between life and death as a helicopter can get to a remote location to rescue an injured person much faster than quads in the summer and snowmobiles in the winter.

Saturday's demonstration took place at Spicer Field on the Coldstream Ranch.
