New fire hall one step closer to completion

Vernon fire chief Keith Green

VERNON - Vernon’s newest fire hall officially has a place to call home and it only cost ten bucks.

The City of Vernon finalized a lease agreement Monday for property in Predator Ridge where a new fire station will be built. The $10 lease is good for 999 years. After that, it can be renewed for another $10.

Fire chief Keith Green says it was one of the last steps before construction could go ahead for the $600,000 building.

“I think it’s exciting for the Predator Ridge neighbourhood to see this come to fruition,” Green says. “I think its going to be a signature building for the community when they drive in and know there’s a fire station there and first responders there to respond. I think it would probably be comforting for people in an interface area to know there are resources and manpower on route.”

Next, a construction contract will be awarded and from there, Green hopes ground will be broken in the spring and the building up and running by fall.
