New evacuation order for Princeton-Summerland Road residents

Smoke from the Princeton fire drifts into the Okanagan Valley. The fire has forced the regional district to issue an evacuation order for another 49 homes late yesterday afternoon, July 10, 2017.

PRINCETON - The regional district has placed a mandatory evacuation order on an additional 49 homes in the Princeton area.

The evacuation order was issued yesterday evening, July 10, and applies to homes along the Princeton Summerland Road north of Princeton.

The homes are located in the Jura area and were place under an evacuation alert July 7.

The area affected includes Hembrie Mountain Road, Jura Station Road, Baker Hill Road and a specific portion of the Princeton Summerland Road.

The RCMP will be controlling access to the Princeton Summerland Road from 1785 Princeton Summerland Road to Hembrie Mountain Road. Access is no longer guaranteed to this section of the Princeton Summerland Road while the mandatory evacuation order stands.

This latest evacuation order brings the total number of homes evacuated in the Princeton fire to 350, with 257 properties under an evacuation alert.

Emergency Support Services have been set up at the Riverside Community Centre located at 148 Old Hedley Rd. in Princeton.
